Time Out: With Sam Dixon
Well, this feels a little self-indulgent doesn’t it? I’m taking some time today to share more about me, what I do and why I do it!
In a sea of coaches, consultants and experts, there’s a chance you’ve become overwhelmed about who can help you in your business. You know you need help, but you may not know or who you need.
So here I am….
I’m a Marketing Consultant to ambitious women in business who want to grow & scale their businesses with my practical and flexible support that I’ve built up over the past 20 years.
What on earth does that mean?
I am absolutely all about helping women build their visibility to increase sales and loyalty.
I help women to get absolutely clear and confident on who they are as a business owner, what they offer and who they want to work with. Helping inform and empower them with their marketing and messaging.
It’s a noisy world out there, and if you don’t know these fundamentals you’re going to get overlooked, overshadowed and before you know it…potentially dragged back into salaried work.
I work mostly with women who have established businesses,. Women who have made a few mistakes along the way, who have tried to figure it out by themselves and now have come to realise hat investing in help to transform their marketing will help them achieve success quicker and more effectively than going it alone.
I’d say a good 75% of my clients come to me as they’re overwhelmed with their marketing, they’re finding social media a drain on their time and resources and business is going well…but not yet booming as they would like.
The other 25% of my clients? Their business is booming and now they need to scale their business.
Once we’re clear on who they are, what they sell and want to work with…we need a plan to raise their visibility, their audience and this involves creating a marketing plan. To help them avoid haphazard marketing and messaging.
Then a plan to take their ideal clients on a journey to build that ‘know, like and trust’. I love a bit of social media but I also like to open my clients eyes and grow their knowledge in other areas of marketing. I’m always beating the drum on building a business that doesn’t rely on social media. So there’s a lot of work on email marketing, blogging and in person networking that I’m doing right now.
And once the sales funnel and content strategy is sorted, we shift our focus on nurturing and creating loyal clients who we want to become our raving fans. Clients who become repeat clients, clients who remain loyal to our business and brand and clients who go on to recommend and refer our business to their friends.
There are a few keys aspects of marketing that I don’t do. I don’t get into the nitty gritty of social media. There are plenty of brilliant coaches and trainers who do this. And I don’t advocate chasing the vanity numbers of social media.
So who am I and what’s my experience?
Let’s rewind to 1999….woah…the last century. Fresh from University (yes with a marketing degree under my belt), I ventured into work. I’d had a taste of ‘working life’ as I did a placement year at Lloyds TSB as part of my degree. Loads of fun working in the City…but marketing in a bank wasn’t somewhere I could see myself. After travelling around the world for 18 months I landed a job at Thomas Cooks (RIP) Head Office in their marketing team…looking after their loyalty initiatives. You can already see why I have this huge passion for loyalty.
After a couple of years, I upped sticks and moved to the Big Smoke…where I stayed for the rest of my corporate career. Starting off at Sky TV…I had the best time working on all marketing channels including TV, radio, direct mail and print. Enormous budgets and the best time socially. I’m not sure my liver has ever fully recovered.
After a short stint in the marketing team at Virgin Holidays (turns out I wasn’t going to be lunching with ‘Richard B’), I moved across to Sony Electronics for 3 years as Marketing Manager.
Back into town, I had the pleasure of working at Marks & Spencer, in their loyalty marketing team and finally I spent my last 3 years at Carphone Warehouse. Starting a team from scratch to build up their retention and loalty efforts.
I have been privileged to work within so many fast paced and dynamic businesses, but following the arrival of my first son I decided I wanted to create a business on my terms.
Within 6 months of having my son I launched 3 businesses! As an accredited life coach, a weight loss consultant and baby massage and yoga instructor. My journey continued from life coaching, to career coaching and business coaching and back into Marketing Consulting. I’ve now got two boys, aged 4 & 6 and focus only on Marketing Consulting.
I’ve truly noticed where I have greatest passion and can make an impact. Empowering women to increase their knowledge and confidence in business to be seen, to be heard and be brought from.
Alongside my Consultancy, I’m also the founder of Thrive Collective – The Home Of Successful Women. I know the positive impact having the right people can have on a businesses success. That’s why I’ve created a community of business women who are looking to connect, collaborate, learn and thrive in their businesses. Women who are energised by other women’s successes and equally motivated by their own. Women who are ready to take their businesses to the next level!
I bring my experience, my practical and pragmatic outlook (I mutter “done is better than perfect” at least 5 times a day) and encouragement to women who know they need training and accountability to fully realise their business potential.
I hope that’s given a better insight into who I am, what I do and where I’m finding myself working most these days.
